Matchbox Slider Pop Up Card

This little box is a combination pop up card and treat container or gift card holder.  Perfect for Valentine's Day, a birthday gift,  or any occasion.

Pulling the drawer forward activates the pop up element. 

When the drawer is closed the pop up decorative element lies flat on the top of the box.

The inspiration came from a gift card holder made by Danielle of Scrapbook Maven.  She made hers from a commercially available, pre-made box.  Not having such a box in my stash of crafting materials, I made my own cut file version!

The pieces are:  inner box (top left), wrapper (bottom), rear slider (top right), front slider (middle right).

Cut out and score pieces: all interior lines are score lines except the window of the wrapper, which is cut.

The wrapper and box are sized for Bazzill weight card stock.

Construct inner sliding box

Fold in long sides.

Spread adhesive on short end.

Adhere with tabs inside short end.

Construct wrapper

Coil wrapper around inner box to fit.  Adhere with tab.

Inner box should slide freely.

Identify back slider (two tabs) and front slider (one tab).  The tab on the front slider is the smaller rectangle.

Remove the drawer from the wrapper.


Adhere front slider tab to underside of the front of the wrapper.  Since the front slider is the window cutout,  it fits exactly in the window, side to side.

Slide the drawer into the wrapper. Push the drawer toward the front a bit.
Line up one end of the back slider with the floor of the drawer, centered on the inside back of the drawer.  Adhere the tab of the back slider to the inside of the drawer.  The slider and the other tab should stick up through the window cut out.

Bring the second tab of the back slider over the top of the front slider.  Adhere the tab to the front of the front slider.

Pull the drawer all the way forward and pinch the sliders together to make sure they are lined up properly.

When the drawer slides back the joined sliders should form an inverted V and then flatten completely in the window.

Adhere decorative elements to the front of the inverted V, taking care not to impede the movement of the sliders or the drawer.

I added a button pull to the front of the drawer and a ribbon tab to the back of the wrapper to make it easier to pull the drawer open.
