How to Make a Venice Pop Up Card
Make It!

Download the graphics
The graphic page is from Il Favoloso Mondo Di Carta Di Toto (now defunct).  However, its's still accessible through the Internet Archive (yay!)

Scale the graphic to 8" wide (height will be approximately 5.65").
If you can, scale without resampling as that will increase the resolution of the picture.

Cut out the pieces:

--cut each individual house out, discarding the grey rectangles and triangles connecting the pairs of houses.

--create a tab on the bottom of the largest boat when you cut it out.

If you have a Silhouette machine (or other machine) and would like a print-and-cut file, please email me (click the "contact" tab for my address).  Or I separate out the vector cut-lines, if that works better for you.

Cut and score the base card.  Blue lines are cut, gray lines are score.

pattern for the Venice pop up card base

The pop up base consists of a series of rectangular box pop ups.

This is a top view showing the pop up boxes behind the houses.

Fold the base card as with any origamic architecture card.  This is a skill that takes practice.  Watch a good video from popology about how to approach folding origamic architecture here.

Arrange the houses, bridges, and boats as desired and glue to the fronts of the pop up boxes.  Cut a slot and slide the tab of the largest boat (in the foreground) through the card, affixing the tab to the back of the card.
